Kazue (Kay) Otsuki Sato passed away at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas, on August 20, 2017.
Kay was born on April 26, 1915, to Frank and Kofumi Abe Otsuki in California. She was 102 years old. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Sam Sato, sisters Teri Matsuoka, Sue Kosaka, Tomiko Omura and Keeter Nakayama.
Kay was a graduate of Mercedes High School and business college. After living in Utah and San Antonio, Kay settled with her family in Los Fresnos and spent many happy years there until her death. She retired in 1980 From the US Dept. of Agriculture as a stenographer/clerk typist. Kay loved being outdoors and was often found in her yard tending her plants and flowers. Kay was also an excellent cook and baker. She made elaborate Japanese meals for family and friends and beautifully decorated birthday cakes for her grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter Sharon Sato of Los Fresnos, son Gordon Sato and wife Kathy of Lewisville, Texas. Grandchildren Elliott Bickley of Houston, Allison Sato Ely and husband David of Austin and Jonathan Sato and wife Ashley of Lewisville, Texas. Great-grandchildren Summer and Samantha Ely of Austin and Charlotte and Natalie Sato of Lewisville, Texas. Brothers Frank Otsuki and wife Rosa of Brownsville and Carl Otsuki and wife Faye of San Benito. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.
Kay was a member of First United Methodist Church of San Benito and First United Methodist Church of Los Fresnos.
Visitation will be at Buck Ashcraft in Harlingen, Texas, on Tuesday, August 22 from 3:00-8:00 pm. Graveside services will be at Mont Meta Memorial Park on Wednesday, August 23 at 10:00 am.
Kay was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
